Our Programs

General Program Information

Community Support Systems, inc., delivers lifesaving and life changing services to our neighbors and friends. We believe in Neighbor Helping Neighbor! CSS is ‘unique’ in that our clients are our ‘clients for life’. Clients are able to receive advocacy services and a set amount of funds per year to provide emergency cash assistance based on agency budget. We provide assistance with rent, mortgage, utilities, medical prescriptions and day-to-day costs (gas for transportation to work) etc. Financial literacy services are available in-house or through referral to the Financial Empowerment Center, Prince George’s Community College. If you are unemployed or underemployed, workforce development services are available through our partnership with the American Job Center Community Network, Employ Prince George’s.

Our oldest and most popular services are our three Food Pantries. These pantries offer nutritious, fresh, wholesome produce, fruits, meats, breads, dairy and non-perishable foods in areas with and without access to supermarkets – food deserts! Our food pantries are unique ‘choice’ pantries where you can shop for the foods that you like and are agreeable to your tastes! No appointment is necessary and you can visit the pantry as often as you like.

‘Program within a Program’ are held at each Pantry. The Social Security Administration conducts presentations with a Q&A session and one-to-one consultations available at each panty. Dental services are available for 15 clients at the Accokeek pantry. A representative from Amerigroup is a frequent presenter at the pantry presentation sessions. SMECO representatives come and assist in providing free LED light bulbs twice a year (These are a big hit!). Lastly, a registered nurse (who is also a member of the Board of Directors) is present at all pantry sessions. Free blood pressure and blood sugar monitoring is conducted and clients are provided with wellness information. We continue to find relevant topics and presentations for our pantries.
